Meet the Pastor
Rev. Dr. Thomas Morris, Sr., is a native of Winterville, Washington County, MS. He received his formal education in the Western Line School District, completing his high school education at Norma C. O’Bannon High School in 1960. He was honorably discharged from military service in the United States Air Force, having had active duty between the years 1962 and 1966. As an honor graduate, Thomas Morris received his Bachelor of Science degree in Political Science & History from Southern University, Baton Rouge, Louisiana. His educational pursuits continued with earned degrees in a Juris Doctorate at the University of Mississippi School of Law. He is the proprietor of a family law firm, Morris & Associates, PLLC, Cleveland, MS, where he practices law with two daughters, a son, and a daughter-in-law, who are attorneys and counselors at Law.
As a minister of the Gospel, Rev. Morris has served as pastor of Greater Hinds Street Missionary Baptist Church, Greenville, MS, since 1995. His first pastorate was at the St. Joseph Missionary Baptist Church, Winterville, MS from 1994 - 2003. Reverend Morris is also an instructor in Biblical studies and he offers his services to rural Baptist churches, an endeavor he has engaged in for over 30 years. He is a graduate of American Baptist College, Nashville, TN. He is presently a graduate student at Andersonville Theology Seminary. As a lifelong learner, he was conferred with a Doctorate of Theology by the Triune Biblical University in December 2013.
Rev. Morris’ extra- church affiliations include: Certified Teacher/Instructor in twelve areas of study by the Sunday School Publishing Board, some of which he has taught and preached in the Republic of Dominica; General Counsel for the National Baptist Convention USA, Inc. and the National USA Foundation, Inc.; President, Congress of Christian Education, Washington County General Baptist Association; and Past Executive Director, Congress of Christian Education, General Missionary Baptist State Convention of MS, Inc.
He is married to the former Ms. Dorothy Pegues of Oxford, MS. They are the proud parents of five children and doting grandparents of six.
